Masterclass: How (and Why) to Work with Innovation When Developing Sports Facilities – Session 1
Session 1 | Why Work with Innovation? – The Project Paradox
Part of a three-session masterclass. Registration covers all three sessions.
Content
· Introduction to the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities
· How sports, culture, and our understanding of leisure life have evolved over the last 60 years in contrast to the evolution—or rather lack of evolution—in sports architecture over the same period
· The issues and challenges resulting from these asynchronous developments—locally, nationally, and globally
· The pitfalls of the building process—where and how it can go “wrong"
· Value—most developers and users want construction projects to generate value—either for the initiator, the users, or society. The value added often determines the project’s success or failure, but which values should a project incorporate, and how can it create new value?
Breakout
The basis for a vision: national, regional, and local challenges and opportunities—societal development, leisure trends, and facility responses.
Issues and questions to be explored
1. How can sports facilities be modernized to meet contemporary standards of sustainability, inclusivity, and flexibility?
2. What role can sports facilities play in fostering local community engagement and creating shared spaces for diverse user groups?
3. How can development projects for sports facilities be used to set national standards and serve as innovative models for future architectural designs?
