Three examples of projects that are relevant across Swedish, Nordic, and international contexts and in which we have applied the approaches described above in various ways during their conception and development.

Issues and questions to be explored

1. How can we define innovation as something relevant rather than purely new, ensuring it addresses actual needs and opportunities?
2. In what ways can innovation set the stage for necessary change, driving progress and transformation?
3. How can we design spaces that reflect today’s trends while offering flexible opportunities for both spontaneous and planned activities, whether for individuals or groups?
4. How can we create spaces that act as social arenas rather than being limited to competitive functions?
5. What strategies can ensure that spaces are designed to support a variety of activities, including sports, culture, art, music, and more?
6. How can we ensure that spaces are tailored to their local context, developed collaboratively with users, and focused on fostering vibrant, inclusive communities?

About the masterclass

This is one of three sessions in a masterclass jointly organized by IAKS Nordic and the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities (LOA). Bringing together Nordic knowledge, research, and practical experience, the masterclass explores innovative approaches to planning, designing, and developing sports and leisure facilities.

The three 90-minute sessions combine lectures based on Danish research and analysis with discussions and group work exploring Swedish, Nordic, and international perspectives.

The masterclass will be conducted in English.

Advance registration is mandatory and binding. Registration is for the complete three-part masterclass only; individual sessions cannot be booked separately.
