When the sports model changes — new demands on facilities and places

André Flatner, President of IAKS Nordic, opens the program by introducing IAKS Nordic and setting the stage for the day’s discussions under the theme The Sports Sector Spearheading the Sustainability Agenda – Decommissioning the Growth Paradigm.

Against this backdrop, sports facilities are major public investments and important meeting places, yet many are not used to their full potential. At the same time, the traditional European sports model is changing as more physical activity takes place outside organized club sport. Remco Hoekman and Mogens Kirkeby connect current research with the wider development of sport and show what this shift means for the planning, design and management of facilities and places.
